Look out lovers, Valentines day is just around the corner! Now I am definitely a lover not a hater when it comes to Valentines Day, and for anyone who thinks you should be romantic every day of the year, this is true. If that's the case for you, Valentine's Day gives you the opportunity to be EXTRA romantic - go get 'em tiger!
Yes it can add pressure, yes it's a money maker, and yes it can be a sad day for people who have no one to celebrate with, but I feel like it only has to be all those things if you let it be.
The pressure - for those of you in a relationship, unless you have an extremely demanding, high maintenance wife or gf (sorry about that) usually the pressure is all in your head. Now there will probably be some sort of expectation to do something, but to be honest most of us girls would be happy with a bunch of flowers, a hand written card and some form of edible goodness - chocolate comes highly recommended. And when I say flowers, it doesn't HAVE to be roses, as I know the prices are outrageous. The most memorable valentines day flower for me was when Ez got me sunflowers because it stood out as something different, and to be honest I'm not that big a fan of roses any way.
If it's the money making side of things you're hating on, get creative! Make a card, go pick a bunch of flowers from anywhere you can find - just keep it legal. Go to the supermarket, get some cheese, crackers, grapes and whatever else to have a picnic and watch the sunset - it doesn't get much more romantic than that, right?
And for people who may not have that special someone this valentines day (ok I'm mainly talking to girls here, I don't think guys are that fussed?) don't mope around about it, have a fun night out! Go out for dinner with a group of friends, have a movie night and watch your favourite romcoms - it's always a lot more fun being miserable with others than being by yourself right? Ok totally joking about the being miserable part, but the rest still stands.
Make Valentines Day whatever you want it to be. And dare I say girls, why not do something special for your men as well? Write them a card, cook them their favourite meal, buy them their favourite ice cream or ... socks and jocks? (Seriously guys are so hard to buy for). But it's nice to show them you care and are thinking about them too.
I hope you all have the best Valentines Day, whether 'single' 'in a relationship' or 'it's complicated'. I'll keep you posted with whatever adventure we get up to on next weeks post.
